The Basic Function of the Spine:
The spine has three basic functions- support, protection, and mobility. In fact, almost every movement of our body requires the stability of the spine. Spine is composed of 24 moveable vertebrae and nine fixed vertebrae which form a "S"-curve. These vertebrae are wider and sturdier at the middle and lower back to support your center of gravity. They narrow at the neck where less weight is carried. The spine provides the framework which keeps the body upright. The spinal cord is the extension of the brain that extends through the center of the spine. Within this cord are millions of bundles of nerves which branch out of the holes between the vertebrae. These nerves send and receive information which control and coordinate the organs, systems, and
almost every cell of the body.

Spinal Misalignment and Diseases:
Spinal misalignment, or subluxation, is a medical terminology that defines the loss of vertebrae’s proper position and its possible impingement of the surrounding nerves. Chronic muscular contraction and tension can also alter the normal nerve supply. When this happens, the organs, glands, and tissues which depend upon the nerve supply may be adversely affected. Impaired nerve force often cause pain, loss of function and even disease. A subluxation resulting in a pinched nerve, such as shown above, has been proven to interfere with nerve transmission to various organs and tissues of the body, and maybe the cause of many health problems.

Low Back Pain
Our spine is designed to be strong and flexible. A natural, healthy spine can bend two-third of the way into a circle, and support over 100 pounds of weight. Unfortunately, our modern lifestyle is a precondition for many of the common causes of back pain. Most of the people do not exercise, and a good majority of the population lives a very sedentary lifestyle. Common reasons for low back pain are:

• Poor posture and poor alignment
• Overexertion
• Emotional stress and muscular tension
• Degenerative wear and tear
• A bulging or herniated disc
• Structural abnormalities
• Traumatic back injuries

Headaches
Over 40% of our practice is focused on treating headaches. There are different kinds of headaches. Some of these types include:
• Tension headache
• Cluster headache
• Migraine headache
• Hormonal headache
• Cervicogenic headache
• Diet headache (hypo or hyperglycemia)
• Allergy headache

• Sinusitis headache
• Traumatic headache
• Toxicity headache

Treating Headaches
These are some of the examples of headaches that we commonly see in our community. It is very unfortunate to note that majority of these headaches are not properly treated. Over 90% of the patients that seek our help are severely medicated. These patients not only complain of headaches but they also mention neck pain, upper back pain and some can even point to specific areas of their neck that can trigger or diminish headaches. Of all of the mentioned headaches the most common and devastating headache stands to be the migraine headache. This form of headache is usually followed by nausea, vomiting, fatigue and full incapacitation of the patient. If you are a person that deals with any form of headaches, it is important for you to seek proper help.

In Good Life Chiropractic the rate of success in treating headaches is very high. Over 90% of our headache patients find lasting relief from headaches. An average full blown migraine headache patient with symptoms of vomiting and nausea becomes asymptomatic and pain-free in less than 10 minutes of Good Life Chiropractic Treatment. Our headache patients range from young teenage to geriatric patients. Dr. Manfred specializes in treating headaches using non-surgical and drug free method called “Sub-Occipital Therapy”. By aligning the entire vertebral structure and using proper neck exercise techniques we are able to provide our patients’ with almost instantaneous relief from headaches. In within only few months our patients headache rates drop down considerably low and many become totally headache free. Some of the patients that have benefited from this program have had severe migraine headaches for over 40 years.

Sub-Occiptal Therapy :
The procedure for Sub-Occipital Therapy is very easy and rewarding. We begin with a 40 minutes consultation and examination. If Dr. Manfred needs to see your X-Rays, we are able to take immediate X-Rays in our facility. Dr. Manfred will then take 24 hours to study your case and then meet with you again to provide you with his report. During this meeting, Dr. Manfred will go over the entire treatment procedure with you. He will be able to tell you how long, and how many visits the treatment will take. All of your questions, including financial questions will be answered before you commit to this program.
